Civil War Bummer History/Reading and Research

Many of Bummer’s posts relate directly to 40 years of study, reading and research referencing a time frame before and during the Civil War. In addition, some of the stories and heritage that is shared comes from oral histories, journals and diaries of the period. The successful leaders and the politics of the time are of special interest. Also, the cause and effect of historical events on the common man deserves particular attention. Bummer has always believed that examination of the past can mirror current and future affairs.

With all due respect and admiration, Bummer’s wife has spent the last 25 years researching family genealogy and is directly responsible for all sourcing of ancestors remembrances, wisdom and folklore. This woman has been instrumental in Bummer’s computer literacy and is the first to acknowledge how much further he has to go.

Any academic background is based in the 50’s and 60’s and is self-evident in many of Bummer’s posts. That doesn’t mean that reading or studying ceased, it does mean a lapse of current scholarly research, analysis and input. The books and study that have been invested in the last 15 years is a testament to what Bummer thought he knew and what he really didn’t.

Bummer relies on a daily dose of critical wisdom including, Simpson, Levin, Hall, Moore, Schulte and many others. These folks keep their eye on the ball and hold this Old Bummer in good stead.
